Slow and steady will win this race. Treme, pronounced tre-may, is the latest creation from the geniuses behind 'The Wire'. Based in a post Katrina New Orleans, Treme follows a large array of characters who are dealing with the effects of the flood in various ways. All of the characters have a deep connection to the city and are trying to make the best in this bleak time.
It stars John Goodman, an english professor from Tulane University. Steve Zahn, a radio DJ/ failing musician. Wendell Pierce (Bunk Moreland from the Wire), a trombone player surviving gig to gig. Clarke Peters (Lester Freamon from the Wire), a Mardi Gras Indian chief engaged in rebuilding one of the hardest hit areas of New Orleans, the ninth ward, a seemingly impossible task. And bringing together his crew of Indian Chiefs, some of whom have died, others are nowhere to be found. And Khandi Alexander (Alexx from CSI: Miami), a local saloon owner who is searching for her brother who was imprisoned right before the flood.
True to the New Orleans tradition, music is the centerpiece of the show. Deep New Orleans Jazz is a constant. Through the first three episodes we have had cameos from icons Dr. John and Elvis Costello, and I would venture to guess that we will see many more.
David Simon and Eric Overmyer are the best in the biz. 'The Wire' is in the discussion for best television series in history. For any wire buffs and everybody who loves music, this show is right up your alley. It is not action packed liked 24. There is no time travel, as in Lost. This is real life portrayed perfectly in a television series, bravo.
Check out the opening sequence. If this doesn't get you moving, nothing will.
